Poland’s 2026 Budget Act has been delivered to the Chancellery of the President, formally starting the seven-day period in which President Karol Nawrocki must decide on its next steps. The head of the President’s Chancellery confirmed that the legislation reached the office on Tuesday evening.
The budget was finalized last week after lawmakers approved 10 amendments proposed by the Senate, completing the parliamentary process. Under Poland’s constitution, the president does not have the power to veto the budget. Instead, he may either sign the act or refer it to the Constitutional Tribunal, with or without his signature.
President Nawrocki has indicated that he has serious concerns about the budget. Speaking during a visit to the United Kingdom, he said there were many doubts surrounding the allocation of funds and criticized the government’s handling of state finances. He argued that mismanagement had left limited resources for distribution in the coming year.
Despite his reservations, the president said he would act responsibly to ensure the continued functioning of the Polish economy and the state. His final decision is expected within the constitutionally mandated seven-day timeframe.
