Luxembourg Stands Firm on EU Support for Ukraine, Warns of Russian Expansion

by admin477351

Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden has expressed concern over the potential for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ambitions to extend beyond Ukraine, as he reaffirms his country’s commitment to supporting Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression. After an EU summit, Frieden emphasized the importance of continued military and financial assistance to Ukraine, asserting that abandoning the nation or conceding to Russian expansion would allow Moscow to realize its objectives.

The EU summit also brought discussions on imposing stricter restrictions on tourist visas for Russian citizens. The aim is to curtail the influx of Russian tourists without enforcing a complete travel ban. Prime Minister Frieden stated that Luxembourg would align its strategy with Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel in addressing this issue.

In addition to the situation in Ukraine and relations with Russia, the summit addressed migration policy. However, EU leaders failed to reach a consensus on the matter. Frieden advocated for a balanced approach that addresses irregular migration while acknowledging the economic benefits of legal migration. He highlighted the necessity of foreign workers for Luxembourg’s labor market, underscoring the country’s reliance on them to fulfill employment needs.
