Türkiye has expressed renewed openness to facilitating peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, as indicated by remarks from Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov. Speaking in Kazan, Ushakov highlighted that Turkish authorities have confirmed their intent to host negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This development follows recent discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Ushakov pointed out that recent Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian soil have hampered the chances of arranging a direct meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite these setbacks, Türkiye has maintained a balanced diplomatic stance throughout the conflict, engaging with both Moscow and Kyiv. Previously, Türkiye played a pivotal role by hosting talks in Istanbul, marking a significant diplomatic effort even though a final peace agreement was not reached.
Continuing its commitment to de-escalation, Turkish officials are keen on finding a peaceful solution to the conflict through ongoing diplomatic efforts. High-level contacts have been focused on identifying possible pathways to end hostilities and mitigate regional tensions. Türkiye’s diplomatic engagement underscores its role as a key mediator advocating for renewed dialogue and a diplomatic resolution.
Ushakov also mentioned that Russia is anticipating updates from the United States following discussions at the recent G7 summit, with expectations for senior American officials to visit Russia soon. As the conflict remains a pivotal issue in global politics and security, Türkiye’s mediation efforts are regarded as crucial in fostering conditions conducive to peace negotiations.
