Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced the approval of long-range defense operations for October, reinforcing the country’s air-defense capabilities as winter approaches. Ukraine is also finalizing plans to bolster its arsenal with additional F-16 fighter jets by the end of the year.
Zelensky highlighted ongoing negotiations with partner countries to support Ukraine’s aviation needs. Belgium has committed to supplying three F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of 2026. In addition, Ukraine has received urgent shipments of F-16 ammunition from both Belgium and Spain, further enhancing its military preparedness.
To counter the threat posed by Russia’s jet-powered Shahed drones, Ukraine is actively working on new defense strategies. According to Zelensky, the country has identified initial prototypes for interceptors and is developing production targets, funding, and delivery timelines to ensure these defense systems are operational in the near future.
These developments come as part of Ukraine’s broader effort to strengthen its air-defense infrastructure. The country has been accelerating the development of high-speed drone interceptors and other defense systems to address the growing challenge of fast-moving aerial threats.
