In a recent meeting between Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jarosław Kaczyński and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, attempts to resolve internal divisions within Poland’s main opposition party made little headway. The talks concluded without any significant breakthrough, highlighting ongoing challenges in reconciling differing viewpoints within the party.
Following the discussions, PiS Member of the European Parliament Piotr Müller disclosed that his group had put forward 21 compromise proposals. These were designed to address the internal discord and rebuild trust among party members. Müller emphasized that these suggestions demonstrated the group’s goodwill, loyalty, and dedication to bolstering the centre-right political alliance.
Müller also came to the defense of the Rozwój Plus association, a group which, he noted, was established to broaden the centre-right’s appeal and draw in new supporters. He assured that legal opinions had been secured to allay any concerns surrounding the organization’s funding.
Despite a readiness to negotiate, Müller firmly opposed the notion of signing loyalty pledges or declarations, which he described as degrading. He argued that the PiS should prioritize being a comprehensive political movement that focuses on policy-making and electoral victories, rather than engaging in internal strife.
