Tusk Pushes for New Vote to Challenge Crypto Law Veto

by admin477351

Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk is making another attempt to secure a parliamentary vote aimed at overturning President Karol Nawrocki’s veto on legislation concerning the regulation of the nation’s crypto-assets market. Tusk has announced plans to request that Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty bring the matter back to lawmakers for reconsideration. This move comes after Nawrocki rejected the proposal three times, with vetoes issued in December 2025, February 2026, and most recently in June. The president has consistently argued that the legislation fails to address key concerns previously raised by his office during its development.

Nawrocki has criticized the government for placing too much emphasis on cryptocurrency issues without adequately resolving the legislative deficiencies. He has indicated a willingness to approve the bill only if these issues are rectified. The conflict between the government and the presidency has escalated, with Tusk linking the cryptocurrency debate to broader allegations involving individuals connected to the former ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party. He has suggested that there is an organized network at play, alleging financial transactions between the cryptocurrency sector, media linked to PiS, and high-ranking politicians.

In particular, Tusk has highlighted concerns surrounding the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, describing the situation as increasingly concerning. Despite these allegations, he emphasized that the government will not interfere with any ongoing investigations by police or prosecutors. However, Tusk maintains that it is imperative for parliament to cast another vote on Nawrocki’s veto, underscoring the importance of addressing the legislative impasse.

The renewed push for another parliamentary vote sets the stage for a continued standoff between the executive branch and the presidency over how to proceed with regulations for Poland’s crypto-assets market. While Tusk is advocating for legislative action, Nawrocki remains firm in his stance that the bill must undergo necessary corrections before gaining his approval. Amidst this political tension, the future of the proposed crypto-assets regulations hangs in the balance.
