This diplomatic effort, which she independently initiated, has been acknowledged for enabling the evacuation of civilians from the conflict zone.
The ceasefire, which lasted from October 27 to November 1, allowed several hundred civilians to be relocated, primarily to areas controlled by Ukraine. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, credited Melania Trump’s team with playing a crucial role in securing the ceasefire agreement and coordinating the evacuation efforts. The agreement was signed by representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, with the U.S. acting as a guarantor.
Despite the ceasefire’s successful implementation, concerns linger over potential military maneuvers by Russian forces during the pause in fighting. Ukrainian military officials suggest that Russian troops may have used the ceasefire to reposition equipment and fortify their positions, although Ukrainian authorities have countered these claims, attributing some movements to demining operations.
