The potential establishment of a permanent U.S. military base in Poland could significantly bolster the country’s defense capabilities and its strategic position within NATO. Polish President Karol Nawrocki emphasized this ambition during discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, highlighting the importance of solidifying military ties between the two nations.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Nawrocki reiterated Poland’s commitment to enhancing military and economic partnerships with the United States. He noted that ongoing dialogues with American defense firms aim to expedite contracts and investment projects, which are pivotal for Poland’s defense infrastructure.
President Trump has reportedly shown support for increasing the U.S. military presence in Poland, a move that Nawrocki believes would deepen security cooperation and fortify Poland’s role within NATO. To facilitate this, Nawrocki has called for further talks between Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Beyond military interests, Nawrocki is also seeking to elevate Poland’s global standing by pursuing permanent membership in the G20. He plans to garner support for this initiative through diplomatic engagements with other countries, including members of the African Union.
During his address at the UN, Nawrocki focused on themes central to Poland’s national interests, including security concerns, regional and global crises, and demographic challenges. He also highlighted issues such as the persecution of Christians, underscoring Poland’s broader foreign policy agenda.
