During the Jasna Góra Harvest Festival and Farmers’ Pilgrimage in Częstochowa, President Karol Nawrocki of Poland lauded the critical role farmers play in safeguarding the nation’s food security and cultural heritage. He emphasized that the country’s rural areas are indispensable to maintaining Poland’s sovereignty by providing a reliable food supply. Nawrocki asserted that the government must stand by farmers through adversities such as droughts and frosts, stressing that they should not face these challenges in isolation.
Nawrocki portrayed Polish farmers as defenders of the nation’s land and cultural legacy, highlighting the importance of rural communities and organizations in preserving traditions and values. He underscored the contributions of farmers’ groups, volunteer fire brigades, and local authorities in upholding Polish traditions, religious practices, family values, and folk culture.
Expressing concerns about potential threats to Polish agricultural land, Nawrocki reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the land remains under Polish ownership. He pointed to legislative efforts aimed at extending restrictions on selling Polish agricultural land and supported measures to preserve the productive capacity of rural areas.
The president voiced his opposition to the European Union’s Mercosur agreement, arguing that it could harm Polish farmers and agricultural output. He also criticized the EU Green Deal, advocating for more attention to the needs and concerns of Poland’s rural population. Nawrocki mentioned his attempts to amplify the voices of farmers through proposed referendums on climate policy and the Green Deal, lamenting the rejection of these initiatives by senators and urging them to pay closer attention to rural communities.
Concluding his remarks, Nawrocki assured ongoing support for the Polish countryside, expressing confidence that rural communities understand and will defend Poland’s national interests. He pledged to continue backing efforts that secure the country’s traditions, land, and agricultural future.
